I like this set. I think #2 and #3 work very well.
I think your "story" idea might have worked better if it were looser and more open to interpretation. A couple gestures from your model are good, but the ones of him holding the box look contrived. Maybe get him doing "natural" things in the supermarket... you said he he doesn't understand cooking/grocery shopping in the first place, so he will naturally look confused and out of place while browsing the aisles.
I think the last picture is great on its own, but I also like it as the end of a set. It is definitely "staged", but I like it as a dramatic ending after more subtle photos on your theme.
