Alex L's Photos

Favorite Photographer: Robert Frank

These are all from "The Americans." I really like his work from this book because he has an "outsider's" eye (being from Switzerland) that really upset the status quo during the 1950s when the book was published. I think his photos are a lot more expansive about what the 1950s were actually like (even though some of the photos are obviously staged), unlike what many conservatives seem to recall about the era. I think his photos really emotionally connect with viewers -- they just seem to grab you. And he did this all with just a simple old-school 35mm camera, a lot like my Pentax K1000!

3 of my photos

First 2 were taken with my Holga toy camera. The last was taken with my fully-manual, no-frills Pentax K1000 (I also developed the film and printed it myself, which I am still learning how to do).

Cross-processed slide film.
